Default 2005 Caravan SXT Engine Noise

I have a whining noise in my engine. It continues to whine even after the engine is warmed up. The noise appears to be coming from the back of the engine. It is loud and I can hear it inside the van when I am driving. Does anyone know what this is? My mechanic couldn't figure it out. Thanks.

Welcome to DF
Does the whining sound go away in park?If the sound is only in reverse or drive, the problem could be the overdrive reaction plate inside the transmission.

Default 2005 Caravan SXT engine noise

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. The noise happens when I am in park and when I am driving. I can hear it in reverse as well. If it is in the transmission do you know if it would be still under warranty. I only have 62,000 miles on my van.
Thanks alot.

Lot's of stuff whines on the '05 van. It's like having a load of kids under the hood
If someone could remove the serpentine drive belt and run the vehicle to see if the noise goes away, that would narrow it down. The power steering pumps make noise if they are low or if the screen is plugged in the reservoir. The altenators are big noise makers. Water pumps whine. Tensioner pulley. But anything belt driven would not be covered by warrenty unless you have a service contract.

a bad fan belt will make all kinds of noise.
I have seen them make every sound you know of.
