Hello, I am new and am looking for some advice. I have a 2000 Grand Caravan, 3.3 lt with automatic tranny. It looks like the leak is coming from a cover of something. Ill try and paint you a picture so someone can tell me what the cover is. When you are looking inside the drivers front wheel well, you can see the transmission pan and facing me is a cover of something. It must be connected to the transmission because there is noting else there. I am looking at a cover that has 8-12 bolts around it and it had a sticker on it with numbers of " seq:4361380 445 AA" There is a large bar code and other numbers on the bottom "VIN: Y 837531" The cover itself seems to have rusted a small hole in it as when I cleaned the cover, the leak is coming right from a raised portion of the cover. At first I thought it was a gasket but since I washed it off and check it after every drive, it is definitly coming from that cover. The issue is I dont know what the heck it is so I cannot ask for a price on a part. The bolts are easy to get at and if I remove the wheel well cover, I can access all the bolts without taking the wheel off. Once I replace that cover, How do I know what fluid and how much to put in. Should I get this done by a pro? I do alot o work on my own (brakes, oil changes) so I do feel confident that this change may be an easy go.

I just bought this cover from the dealer for $29 CAD. It's called a "Transaxle Rear Cover" (aka "peanut" as referred to by the dealership). Mopar # 04659636.

 

use sealant on bolts when reinstalling

 

2 = 1/8" bead of silicon sealer / addhesive.
Torque the bolts to 125 in lbs

 

I went out to the dealer and purchased the cover for 32$cdn. its now replaced and thanks alot

 

I haven't replaced mine yet, did you have to drain the transmission fluid before installing, or can you replace without draining?

 

remember in/lbs, a guy on another forum did his trans pan bolts in ft/lbs and couldn't figure out why he broke off 3 of them until he check the torques again

 

I put a collecting pan under the work space and popped of the bolts. Only lost about 1 ltr. This is an easy job but as Tizzy said, torque to specs and you will be fine. NO you don't have to drain all the fluid, just what is lost when you pop off the cover. Make sure you clean off the old silicone though, it was on pretty good too!

 

Tizzy, you mention, put sealent on bolts when reinstalling, silly question: what sealent? loctite? or RTV?
