Default Is there an e-brake adjustment?

My emergency brake has not been really holding at all. And just today I would out my wife drove 20 miles with the brake on. Will a lose brake cable cause my brake light to come on? It's been on for just under a year and will not go out. Also, with my wife driving that far, would that have done damage to the brake system? Is there a problem with my automatic brake adjust?

I would ck the rear lining,to be sure the linings are not burnt up.The park brake cable is self adjusting.

I decided to replace the brakes regardless. Got to it and finished them. On one side, the automatic brake adjuster was not even hooked up correctly. But I still have the same problem, the e-brake does not hold. When the pedal is pushed, I can tell it does put tension on the cable as it pulls a plate/lever behind one of the shoes.

Then it maybe time to replace the park brake ratchet. Just so you know, that dodge, chrysler and jeep don't call them an e-brake anymore,Thats why i am typing the park brake ratchet. If the pedal goes all the way to the floor, then the ratchet has failed.
