snapon mt2500 scanner is a way better tool than the infomercial junk.

air bag light on because you damaged the clock spring when you removed the steering column to pull the dash or you forgot to plug in the passenger side air bag when you had the dash out.

check engine light should show something with key dance or what ever you can do to get the codes out.

I thank you sapporo; upon reading the online manual, flash codes are a thing of the past and one has to use a diagnostic tool! As my source of capitol is not in a standing to purchase a diagnostic tool, especially since I won't know when I might ever use it again, I guess I'll end up paying somebody to get the codes out!

seems that everyone want to be able to fix their car themselves. if so, then you need to own a vehicle built before the mid 80's so you don't have electronic fuel injection, abs, air bags, electronic transmissions, body computers, and all that other happy crap.

with sophisticated information systems, you just can't randomly guess at the problem without proper diagnosis equipment.

say if you broke your arm you'd expect them to take an x-ray ?!? correct? well an x-ray is a piece of diagnostic equipment.

if your car is broke, you need a scanner which x-rays the systems to help determine the problem and it's severity.

if you think it's foolish to own a scanner, then you can't expect to fix electronic related problems since it's a crucial tool for diagnosis.

so again, just like if you broke your arm, you could have it set without using an x-ray but the success of repair would be greatly diminished .

I'm glad not everyone thinks having a scanner is a good idea, because it give people like me an advantage... I make money because I have skills, knowledge and equipment that they don't. so I make a living doing what many others can not.

I understand the situation about everybody wants to fix their car themselves. My situation is I am on disability with an 80% disabled left arm, I went to college at the University of Alaska in Anchorage when I was 17 to be a certified mechanic!
Here is the trippy thing, at 21 while I was in my mechanic career I was in a bad Motorcycle accident. The accident broke my right hand off and ripped the nerves in my left shoulder! The nerve breakage is called a brachial plexus! The accident also left me in a coma for over a month. This changed my career path.
The check engine light I made turn off by leaving the battery unplugged for the night! The air bag light I am not really worried about, after my trip I will check for the unplugged second air bag or change the clock spring.
I am grateful for the internet and good people who use the net who are willing to share knowledge.

I can't believe how many times I've heard just about the same disability story. one of my friends was paralyzed from the chest down in an accident. yet he still installs exhaust systems for a living. the only thing he can't do is drive the car onto the lift. he bends pipe, removes old exhaust etc. (Esquire Muffler). so we can swap disability stories all day.

It's incredible that you survived and are able to remove the entire dash with only 20% of arm use. IDK how you'd ever get up at some of them bolts with only partial use of one arm...

point is,just because you have a disadvantage doesn't mean you still can't do other things. As soon as I hear an excuse that something can't be done because of _______. I loose my respect because that's an excuse not to do something.

Maybe you can't afford a scanner, but if you were creative in networking, you'd come up a solution. I'd think someone going to be a mechanic would have made friends also in the field which in turn would lead to other friends and so on.

the air bag light related to the clock spring is covered under a recall so that would be free to have fixed.

Thanks for the recall information sapporo! About my disability, The Doctors re-attatched my right hand so I have good use of that arm! I find problems when one needs two hands but mind power allows me to figure out the solution!

Anyways, I just returned from the Gorge in George, Washington! Went too a Kieth Urban/John Mare concert and it was awesome. I put on about 1200 miles on the trip and the cooling problem is repaired. I'll call the local dealer about repairing the recalled part.

I'm going to have to redo some of the work, my doors won't lock with the switch unless the keys are on, and the steering lock isn't working when I turn it off! I imagine I need to reset the steering column position. I had a less mechanically inclined friend helping me out and I wasn't involved as much as I should have been! But much thanks to my friend for giving me a hand!
