Default 03 grand caravan have code P1790...options?

my damn trans was acting up (not shifting outta second), so i went to the dodge garage here in town, they hooked it up to the computer and said it was throwing a code "P1790", they then proceeded to tell me that i need a total rebuild

whats your alls opinions?, my father in law seems to think i just need a "shift cylinoid pack", not sure what that is...

thanks alot

it needs someone with knowledge, skills, tools and abilities to physically inspect and test the vehicle to determine the best course of action. otherwise you start throwing parts at it (which are not cheap), open up a lot of potential to making thing worse and becoming more frustrated.

that code is 'fault immediately after shift" should be some other codes with this...

it could be a bad solenoid, bad input or output speed sensor, internal transmission failure and much more

Did the dodge place do a clutch test and shift lever test and ck the CVI's? There should have been another code with the P1790,maybe P0731 or P0720????

they just said it was on "limp in" i think thats what it was, and it had "internal failures"...not sure what that was either, but of course, they want to sell me a rebuilt trans for 1800 and 400 to put it in, so 2200 total....the only good thing was it would have a 100k mile warranty, but that still seems like a lot of $$$

sorry you are not providing adequate information for us to help you with what course of action to take. that's the about the going quote I've seen from a dealer. actually a little on the low side

if you were near me, I'd be willing to buy your van as-is
