Inst. and Center Console Lights not working
2002 Grand Caravan
None of the gauges are lit, and there are no lights in the radio, buttons, etc.
I have reset the bcm, checked the fuses, etc
The dimmer switch works on the odometer.
What else can I check?
Is there something I can do to verify it is actually the BCM before I buy one?

in that year, if there is a code set in the BCM for output short, it will not turn on the illumination. How did you "reset" the bcm? There was a module flash to make it check for the short on every operation to keep it from having to clear the code to make the lamps work.
By reset the bcm I mean remove fuse, remove battery, etc. In other words, remove power and then restart. The PCM was replaced (for failing internal diagnostics) and the process of doing that did not fix it either.
Are you saying that there may be a short in something external to the BCM and that would be evident from a BCM code? Is there anyway for me to narrow down where that might be?
I've had two problems that could contribute.
1. My wife hooked the jumper cables up backwards once, but I don't think it failed at that moment. (some confusion regarding the timing)
2. I had a short in a seat motor power cable under the drivers seat that was blowing fuses. It was caused by the cable rubbing against a sharp corner when the seat moved. Again I don't remember the exact timing with respect to the lighting failure.
Thanks for responding.

It just means at one time, the bcm saw an overcurrent condition. When it see's that, it will not turn the lamps on until the code is cleared and I'm not sure weather disconnecting the battery will erase it. You would need a scan tool to check for a code in the system. Backwards jumper cables don't help either, doesn't take much to fry a computor.
