Hey guys, I'm brand new to these forums. I'm posting for my dad who isn't here to give me all the details. But to the best of my knowledge the story goes like this. My dad has a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan with ~199k miles. Here recently whenever he is stopped his car gets an engine light as well as an oil pressure alarm. It dies on him if he's not careful and rev it. He took it to a mechanic that is a friend of the family and he said that the engine was about to die. I was curious what you guys thought could be the problem? My dad said he looked somewhere and saw that cleaning the throttle body might help and/or changing out the fuel filter or something along those lines.

I need some information from you or your dad. I know he has a 1999 van, I don't know if its a 2.4L or a 3.3/3.8L engine. Can you tell if the oil level has been checked and by any chance the code the van is setting for the ck engine lite?

 

I believe it's the 3.8l. Not sure what the code is or how to check it.

 

if it is a yellow light of engine shape, it is check engine light. Code can be read by key dance i.e. turn the instrument lights on and off two times and then turn them on, never start vehicle, exact code will be displayed at odometer LCD. Let us know the code .

 

well i have a 2000 and i read this so i went out to plug my cluster back in an now i do not have any thing working on it but lights????? worked fine when i puled it to put new light bulbs in it.
