Default 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan Engine Dies While Driving But Turns On Couple of Hours After

I have a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3L since it was brand new. Haven't had any major issues with it until this year.

The engine turns off while driving and engine won't start back up for a couple of hours. This problem does not happen often, only once in July, once in October and once today. First time, it was while the car was stopped at a traffic light, while the other 2 times were normal driving at around 50km/hr (35mph). The first time it happened, we were on vacation and the car had been going up and down hills in 35 degree celcius temperature. The second time, it was the first cold day of the year (around -10 celcius) and today the temperature is around -20 celcius. The oil pressure sensor light comes on before the engine turns off. It won't start right away, but if you leave it for a couple of hours, the car starts up and runs normally without any issues. I have towed it to 2 mechanics and both times, it started back up fine and did not have any error codes from the computer, so they aren't sure what the issue is. No other lights on the instrument panel turns on other than the oil pressure sensor light that turns on before the engine shuts off. I have lots of gasoline in the car and engine oil has been changed regularly and is full. I have been told to try to change the oil pressure light sensor unit by someone, but haven't tried that yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to DF
I would open the wire harness going to the crank sensor. There could be some wires shorted together, causing your no start.

Default check connections too

My 95 did the same thing, after I had unwrapped all the wiring I still could not find the short. Ended up being a corroded wire inside the harness side of the crank sensor connection couldn't see it, but when I unplugged it one of the wires fell apart. It had just enough left so it worked most of the time. Ended up soldering the wires together has worked fine since.

I had something similar with our 88 Caravan and it turned out to be the fuel pump. If you have a way of check the fuel pressure, it would be a quick way to rule this out.

besides the other quality guesses, I'll throw a guess that it's the PCM, cam sensor, coil pack
