the van is front wheel drive.....i live in everett washington.....and i can appreciate not wanting to deal with ppl after you've dealt with an idiot...i do all my own replacing of car parts.....i've done the intrepid 2.7 to 3.5 engine swap......ive done a 3.0 to 3.8 engine swap in a mini-van via dropping the sub-frame....tons of 727 tranny swaps...and tons of other various jobs....i work closely with my dad who is ASE certified....and on the intrepid i bought the engine from NY and shipping was only 200 bux....so it cant be more than that...so if you should decide to help me out, you can rest assure im no car idiot.....my van is over 200k and so if i could get a 70k tranny it would make my van last almost forever....thx again for all you guys' help..

I'm finding tranny's in WA junkyards that will work for you under $350. With all the experience you have, I'm really surprised you're asking for something so much easier than what you've accomplished.

I know high school kids can rebuild these. my 8 year old helps me... I'll bet in a couple years she'll be able to do most of the light stuff by her self.

Atra makes a video with step by step directions. there are a lot of service books out there with crystal clear pictures.. I see them on ebay all the time. I bought a lot of rebuild kits on ebay CHEAP. just recently I bought 20 basic kits (I don't need clutches as I have A LOT of them). the 20 kits cost me $450 with shipping.

Oh, and you never told us the symptoms of why you need a trans. I've bought a lot of vans with "bad" transmissions that only needed a simple fix. One I got this summer of Craigslist was a 2000 town and country for $1000 with 4 brand new goodyears. fixed the trans in 5 minutes, and sold it 3 hrs later for $2000 and I kept the new tires (my mexican buyers don't care about tires or miles... I really like dealing with them over the 'general public')

HAHAHA i like your thinking....ok for symptoms....

so for a long time it ran just like a car should.....but then it started pausing goin into reverse or drive when it was cold but after warming up would drive fine.....now it does it when cold or warm.....but when its "in" gear it runs great...it pops in and out of gear but giving a lil gas will put it back into gear....so after some research i saw that theres a solenoid pack that could be the culprit......well then i started getting fluid on the ground inside and back a little from the driver side front tire....

i havent gotten under it yet to see if its just a hose or something...so i guess im just prepared for the worse....

"With all the experience you have, I'm really surprised you're asking for something so much easier than what you've accomplished"

not sure what you meant by this but ive been long conditioned to believe that tranny's are a "tech only" kinda job....im not afraid of any chore, but i dont wanna spend the money only to eff it up and then have to start over....

i found atra but nothing in the form of videos....hmmm

IDK, I have a set of 604 videos with ATRA title on them. a funny guy with glasses walks through every part of the rebuild process with crystal clarity.

transmissions and electrical are the 2 best paying gigs in auto mechanics. I know some kids that can rebuild these transmissions. when I say kids I mean 16 year olds.

solenoid pack isn't the cause. usually it's Low reverse clutch pistons or piston retainer gasket OR input clutch seals. have you changed fluid and filter? also a can of transmedic won't hurt anything and surprisingly I've had luck with that on a one of my trans when I wasn't in the mood to fix it at the time... lasted over a year.
