Question A Real Head Scratcher

1999 3.3, Caravan Sport, 141,000 miles. 4-speed trans

Pulled it in my garage to change the Power steering pump.
Disconnected the battery, changed the pump, and put it back together. Not as hard a job as I had feared.
Reconnected the battery and took it for a test drive, no speedometer, and the transmission is in limp mode. It was working perfectly before the pump change.
There are no wires disconnected, hoses, etc. Only unhooked the battery, and the sensor in the exhaust pipe.
I cleaned the ground at the battery, but no help.
Anyone have any idea what could have happened?
Confused in Michigan

I checked it, but I was nowhere near the sensors.
Thanks

Look down by the front center engine mount AND on the front corner of the trans. See if the wiring harnes has rubbed through. Then again you were also close to the trans controller wiring at the right side of the engine compartment. As in the previous post also check those sensor wires. Doesn't matter if you were near them or not. If you pulled on the harness or jacked the engine up or down something could have moved.

I just had to fix the power steering pulley on my folks 1999 Town and Country. I didn't come near any wires at all. I took out the axle shaft instead of monkeying with the exhaust. I don't see how this guy could have had any issues with his trans in relationship to the power steering. Might just be a fluke. I did notice that when I didn't poperly tighten the negative cable, there was some weird electrical glitches going on. Maybe he can take it to Autozone and have the van scanned for codes to pinpoint the cause.

I just had it scanned, and it came up with:
P0500
P0700
P0731

Something else came up when I took it for another drive before the scan.
Started out cold, pressing on the gas it is popping back into the manifold.
Lite pressure on the gas, it does not do it.
Stepping on it, it bogs real bad and pops like crazy.
Mind you, this thing ran and drove great before the pump change.

Thanks everyone

I actually took the negative clamp apart and cleaned it really well, then tightened it very tight. Same thing.

Would changing the input and output sensors be a possibility? I hate throwing parts at it without knowing for sure.

Thanks

I don't see how the input sensor would have anything to do with your issues. Seems like this is going to lead to a lot of guessing especially since you said everything was fine until you fixed the PS pump. Sorry for suggesting the negative clamp. I had no idea you already elminated that possibility. How about a shot in the dark that a mouse ate wiring under the PDC while it was sitting? Seems as good a shot in the dark as anything. My boss had a clutch jamb up in his truck. Over night, mice built a nest in the pressure plate. He drives the truck every day. One morning, no clutch release. Seems them little SOB's packed the pressure plate full and his clutch quit working.

I've been tracing wires and checking for corrosion, breaks, etc.
Pulling grounds and cleaning and tightening.
Just seems like there is no rhyme or reason for this glitch. Very frustrating!
Would an O2 sensor have any effect on things? It looks good, and the wires are fine, but getting the exhaust out took a little effort and banging around? Maybe damaged internally?

Thanks
