Default key fob

My girlfriend has a 2010 Dodge Caravan with the key fob that has the lock/unlock and panic button on it. It is giving her problems starting to where it starts intermittenly. Is this where the battery needs to be changed out since I do not know if the battery is weak, it will cause problems starting? I did not ask her if it also gives her problems locking and unlocking. Thanks, Ed.

From what I understand about transponder chips, you don't even need a battery in the fob for the ignition system to sense key. The battery is only to send the RF(?) signal to operate the lock/panic functions.

You are correct. I took the battery out and was able to start the van. It still works intermittently. I will have to get it replaced. Thanks, Ed.

It may still be covered under warranty if under 36k miles.
