Unhappy Starting problems 2003 3.3L Grand Caravan

Turn the key and nothing. Replaced battery and still nothing. Mechanic checks and suggest that PCM Module needs to be replaced. He jumpers the old PCM module and the van runs fine.

Installed new/rebuild PCM module and van starts and runs great for three days and then the problem comes back. Put old PCM module back in and the van starts and runs fine. Take the van back to mechanic and checks for codes. Neither PCM module has any stored codes. Hook up new and old PCM module and the van starts and runs fine.

Three days later van will not start with either PCM module. Turn key and nothing. The next morning just out of curiosity turn key and the van starts with the new PCM module. Van runs fine.

Obviously, the problem is not the new PCM module or the starter relay.

Anyone have a similar problem or solutions?

Welcome to DF
No i haven't seen this problem. But you could have a few things going on. Ignition switch, Starter or circuit shorted or open at times. You may need a wire diagram to help find the problem.

Next time it doesn't start you could pull the starter relay and check for 12vdc at contact 86 on the IPM with the key at start. If it's there check continuity on the dark green/orange wire from contact 85 at the relay socket to contact 31 on connector C1 at the PCM. If that's good start scratchin your head again. This checks power and ground to the starter relay coil. Disconnect the negative battery cable before connecting/disconnecting the PCM.

My mechanic had the Van for a 10 days and replaced the ASD relay. Starts fine now but it wants to die when it is being driven.

The gauges will go to zero and the van will jerk a couple of times and then it runs fine. This happen twice today.

As my daughter put it the gauges (except the speedometer) wave.

Can it be a bad crank sensor?

Default Van is Fixed

Five broken wires under the battery. One powers the PCM, one powers the BCM and one controls the cruise control.

It took the dealer 4 hours to trace the wiring harness looking for shorts.

I've been seeing a fare number of threads about that wire bundle causing all sorts of electrical problems over the years. Not the first thing you think of but it will go higher on my list for sure. Thanks for posting the fix.
