I have a 2003 Caravan. I have put in a new battery, yet still having some problems. I figured this Forum will come to my help...

When I put in the key and turn it, it clicks. Just one click and then nothing. I turn the key back (Off) and then try again, same thing.. a click and nothing. I have to do this 3-4 times before the engine fires up, and then no problems.

Recently it seems to have gotten worse. Now its anywhere between 15 and 25 tries before it fires up.

Is this a starter issue, or....??? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined to where I would be able to replace something. I'm just looking to save some money and NOT take it to the Dealer and or a 2nd hand mechanic.

I would say the starter is causing the problem. The bendex is wore out and now its time to replace the starter motor.

 

Change the starter or change the starter solenoid contacts in the starter. More work but half the price of a starter. Best way to prove it's the starter is to check voltages but if that's not in the cards you can tap on the starter with a hammer when it just clicks. If it fires up you've prooved the contacts are shot.
