The bottom line is no one can accurately diagnose this problem without driving, feeling, and hearing in person the things it is doing. Even a knowledgeable guy like 22DODGE22 can only speculate. It could be dangerous, yes. Who knows how long you have before real failure. Borrow money from your dad, or friends whatever. Go to a local high school or community college auto shop. Or keep driving and risk an accident.

Every day that you get into your vehicle you increase your risk for catastrophic failure.
Give your van to another mechanic, have them drive it for a whole week. If after that point nothing is noticeable for a problem, then have yourself checked out. Maybe it's just a loose nut behind the wheel.

My grandpa was at my house today and he was a mechanic back in Russia. He drove the car around and felt the stiffness in the wheel but thinks it's not a big deal because it turns fine and thinks it's might be from different power steering fluids being mixed together by the previous owners of the car.... is that a possibility???
he also said that everything else with the car feels great....
