Default 2001 dodge grand caravan stuck in 1st no speedo

here is a strange one my wifes 2001 grand caravan drove home 13 miles fine for here 65 mph on the truway the next morning we go to take our daughter to school and there is no speedometer it wont shift out of first the prdnl shows that we are in every gear all prndl are all circled and while in drive if you hit the brakes you can hear the shiftinterlock solinoid clicking and i am not positive but i believe once you are in drive that should not be engaging it is like the van assumes that it is in park i am ase certified tech but i work mainly on gm vehichles and i am not a tranny man but i would think there should be power with the ign. in run at the tcm but there is none i dont have the schmatics so i am at a loss any help would be greatly appreciated

You're actually stuck in 2nd gear.

A good ASE tech would put a generic quality scanner on it, then go into trans selection then see what codes and data looks like. I'm not a GM tech or ASE certified, but that's how I'd go about fixing some GM car. Does your shop have online shop manuals or do you work at a GM only dealer?

There could be a problem with a bus communication. You need to scan any stored codes and post.

it has a p1698 thats the only one stored

And what does it have in the TCM? You just looked at engine codes. Did you do that with an autozone code reader or with the key cycle?

P1698 is no bus message from the TCM. This would be a start. If you want a pdf file on the code. Send me a pm and i'll send it to you.
