Default Flexplate differences??

Can anyone explain the difference between a 1996-97 3.3 flexplate and a 1998-2003 3.3 flexplate. I see that there is some kind of difference but I have one of each in front of me and they are very similar if not identical. Part number for the early one is 4736016 and 4736190. Of course with the 41TE tranny. I'm told they are not interchangable. Why?

I'm really just curious about this and I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

Thanks

One of the torque converter bolt holes is offset and will not line up to the flex plate. Thats why you should replace the flex plate when you replace the transmission with another one. The transmission are interchangable, You need to replace the flex plate and you may need a jumper harness for the TRS sensor. Which i have the part number. The 1998 thru 2003 flex plate are not offset as the early ones.

Thanks MT. That is the exact info I was looking for. I'm putting an 03 trans into a 96 GC 3.3 I got the torque converter with the 03 trans and I bought an new (98-03) flexplate. But they look so similar. I will check for the bolt offset just to I can see it.
Also I cut a TRS connector off of a later model Chrysler car that has the new style connector and I will splice it together with my harness with water tight spilces

My 96 trans sems to have a different type of Crank position sensor also. But it is wired for both types as I found an unused connector mounted to the rear engine mount. The unused connector is th same style as the 03 trans CPS.

Thanks for the info!
