Default question about oil change

Hi
I have a question regarding the oil change for Dodge Caravan 2010 SXT , in fact the question is much general.

Let say I change the oil and use the standard oil ( non synthetic one) , I reset the computer and presumably in about 10.000km I should change the oil again .
Does it make any difference if I use synthetic for the engine calculations ?

I always thought that the engine will make the calculation based on number of stop and go , temperature , speed and so on and in fact whenever the computer will ask to change the oil is based on a "educated guess" and not a real analysis .

So what is better to put synthetic oil and let him do the math or put non synthetic and change it at half ?

with the oil filter is another story let stay on the oil for the moment.

Your feed back is appreciated .

Always do whatever your owners manual says to do while under warranty. You don't want to give Chrysler an excuse to skip paying for repairs.

Thanks cougar41

I'm thinking what is best for my car but in the same time I don't want to throw money ( save my money and the planet

Owner manual say at 10k or 6 months but I was inclined to go for 7-8k and 4 months with non synthetic -oil meet the Dodge MS6395 standard.

As I do my own oil change with a fluid extractor it's convenient.

I always extend the change interval when I use synthetic. How much is up to you but on our van, I typically go 8-10,000 miles based on the type of driving we do which is predominantly highway.

That, depends on what car you have. Oil level is also important. If something is leaking, or burning oil, you will find out the hard way.
Synthetic oil should be OK on extended change interval, but you have to check ur level regularly.

when under warrenty I always follow at least what it says in the manual

I personally run mobil 1 synth and change every 3k miles or about every 2months,(I am out of warrenty)

it gives me a chance to spot any problems,

but you should be changing the filter every oil change, even when you use an extractor to remove the oil

and also a factor is your driving habits, stop and go, outside temp, dusty, etc

Hi , Ever look at an old lawn mower with the black baked on crud on the block Crude boils or bubbles out @ 185 d.f.
Synthetic oil boils @ 400 D . f. an engine lives longer with no bubbles . my 2 cents Bud
