Default 2001 Caravan sliding door won't "pop off"

So I've read a few threads about similar issues, but I'm not sure I've stumbled upon one with the exact same problem.

The driver’s side power sliding door on my Caravan will not release, or pop off, but the motor still works. When I press the button to open the door it unlocks and then nothing happens. After a few seconds the motor "whirls" a little like its either trying to open or reclose, but I think the actuator that is suppose to pop the door open is not getting a signal or just not working.

If I hit the button and then grab the door handle at just the right time the door works as it should expect obviously I'm manually initiating the release.

Has anyone had experience with this? I read plenty about wiring issues, but they all seem to be issues where the door starts to open , but stops.

I haven't made the time to inspect the wiring, but I will if need be. Just wondering if this is a common issue with a common solution.

Thanks,

Dave

Welcome to DF

First thing that you need to do, is ck for stored codes in the sliding door module. There maybe a problem with the latch assy.

Thanks for the help. I'm assuming this is nothing I can check with a regular OBDII scanner loaned out from and auto parts store? If not am I stuck going bringing it to a dealer or would you imagine most shops have such a tool?

Thanks again,

Not with a generic scan tool, no. If you can open the door manually, check for a broken wire inside the track harness. Probably the black one.
