Code 55 keeps blinking
Hi,
I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan (it's just over 100.000 KM) and the check engine light came on, tried to read the code by turning the key and holding trip and reset for 5 seconds and then pushing the trip button, the only code I get is 55, which is the end of codes I believe, I waited a long time, the 55 blinked over a 100 times, but no other codes came up, the 55 just kept blinking, am I doing something wrong?
Hope you can help me,
Thanks,
Bri

Hi,
I tried turning the key 3 times, still no go ...
Code 55 keeps blinking.
A freaky coincidence is that the van just past 100.000 KM's when the light came on.
Any other ideas besides going to the garage (and be at their mercy) and find out what’s wrong?
Thanks for the help,
Bri

I'm assuming you're in Canada since you're using kilometers. I'm also assuming since you're seeing a code 55 you are counting the service engine soon (SES) light flashes to get your code and not seeing a powertrain code beginning with the letter "P" displayed on the odometer. Not all vans are capable of the later. These codes will look like this for example P0129.
> If you are seeing a continuos 55 code from the SES light flashes it means there are no codes stored. 55 means "end of codes" indicating the test is over. Generally but not always, if the SES light is not on (prior to test) there are no codes stored. Is yoiur SES light still on prior to the test?
> Most auto parts stores in the US will connect a scanner and read your codes for free. Might check into that in Canada. A scanner will read powertrain codes. These codes will give more comprehensive information than what you can get with the key cycle trick and counting the SES light flashes.

You might try disconnecting the battery for about 10 to 15 minutes and see it that might reset the computer.

Hi,
Thanks for all the help; to answer the questions, I am in canada and the SES light is on all the time for the last week now.
I will try to disconnect the battery and if this doesn't work, guess I will go visit my garage to have them connect a scannner.
Thanks,
Bri
