You don't mention what year your van is but as far as I know....They parking brake is self adjusting and cannot be manually adjusted. It is done with a ratcheting adjuster at the parking brake pedal mechanism. If one side seems out of adjustment, you probably have some other problem. The self adjuster effects both cables equally

Look underneath the car directly below the drivers seat. You have to be on your back and looking up. You will see the parking brake cable. It comes from the pedal assembly as a single cable. Then it splits into two and the cables go to their respective wheels. Follow the cable all the way back to the one you say needs adjustment. It goes through tubes and bends. Look for damage or ? Tug on it and see if its loose. It should be as snug as the good cable is. Have someone set the brake with you looking and see if both cables are moving ok. If all looks ok then the wheel and brake drum must come off. Not sure if you have disc or drum at the rear wheels. Good luck.

Default Thank You

I have drums on the back, and the passenger side cable works, but doesn't seem to hold the wheel tight when i apply the emergency break, the wheel spins freely.

With drum brakes, if the shoes aren't adjusted correctly, it affects e-brake performance. Possible the shoes are too loose.

I have the same problem... ineffective parking brake. I press the pedal and it's essentially no use. I wonder if I need to check the rear shoes as well. Can you please define "adjusting" the brake shoe? What exactly needs to be done to it?

Thanks!

On your brake shoes in the back there is a little wheel(it has a star or teeth ),you have to adjust that wheel from the back of your wheel, you will see a little hole there that you can put a flat head screwdriver through to adjust.

Hope this helps
