Where's the "bing"?

I just replaced my instrument cluster in my 1992 Town and Country. Last week when I pulled the old one out to test it, and then put it back in, the warning "bing" (Your door is open! Your keys are in the ignition! Your lights are on! Your alternator just died!) got quieter. It's now about half as loud as it was, which normally is fine, but if I have a serious problem, the bing can be my friend.
Where is the actual thing that makes the sound, and what might cause it to lose volume? It happened once before after my van sat for almost a year with a dead transmission. At that time, the speedometer worked intermittently, probably from the speed sensor corroding. Both issues cleared themselves up after driving it again for a week or two.
