Default a/c psi # low side. potential problem?

06 caravan 3.8--air is running cold; low side line is cold when touched. checked psi # on low side. reads 45 psi. at 83 degrees outside, humidity 63 at idle. .
excellerate engine to 1500 rpm and psi low side reads 38.

Is 45psi a have the gauge for that side.bad thing at idle? read that it should be 35psi. didn't check high side because don't have gauge for that.

never new much about a/c back then. Since that time i have read allot. wish i knew then what i know now. i believe i could have installed it. Sometimes reading too much makes me paranoid about every sound i hear. never use to be that way, and never had car problems. thank God.

had rear evaporator and expansion valve put in 10 mths ago after i bought it.

your charge is perfect , your not supposed to charge at idle , when you brought the rpms to 1500 that is the charge rpm

So Crusty, 45 psi is good at idle speed. thanks for response.
You wrote the word "charge." I wasn't actually charging the system just examing psi #'s.

I have never charged the system before.

I saw that 45psi was right on the border (on gauge) between "filled good" and the gold shaded area on gauge having the word "alert" with that area. The alert area was between 45 and 65 psi.

Thanks again.

Right, thanks for the psi numbers. This is what I am saying--my ambient temp. was 83 degrees, and even though the a/c appears cold to me, the psi number on low side was reading as though it was 110 outside.

So is a 45psi number, low side, 83 degrees outside, an indicator that something maybe wrong? Because your chart says it should be between 17 and 32 psi.

What would be wrong is anything, based upon your charted numbers?

I'lll go check the numbers again today and see if it changed.

thanks for writing back.

Just go back and checked a/c low side numbers again 85 degrees outside. Low side gauge reads psi 47. Could this occur because of expansion valve bad?

Should i reduce some of freon in the system? and then check it.

If it is cold, don't worry about it. The more the humidity, the higher the low side pressure. Pressures aren't an exact science, you really play it by operation. what is the outlet temperature? That is the deciding factor. That chart is an old chart they have had since R12 and 134 acts slightly different.

I would have checked but didn't have thermometer. I found it today, but battery is dead. i used it to check body temperature if someone is sick in house. I will find a battery and check it. Thanks again for questions and answers.

no need to close the side vents, but check the temperature in the center.
