Default Beginning of transmission saga

The girlfriend went out to start her 03 town n country EX 6 cyl and immediately abut two quarts of tranny fluid shot out of somewhere. I'll have more to tell when I get my jack and tools out here in the rain and jack it up. Just guessing there may be a known deficiency or common issue. More to come...............

Any insight would be appreciated,
Thank you
Pat.

Take a look at the transmission cooler lines.

Default Well I'll be darned

There appears to be an aux fluid cooler toward the rear of the engine. With short little lines, one was popped off. I have no manual for it currently but am reading what I can. So I'm worried about why it popped off in the first place. I'm going to replace the fluid and filter, whatever is not in the torque converter anyhow. Anything else I should be concerned about?

Upon further examination it appears I should tighten some bands while I'm in there, seems fairly easy, and flush the remaining fluid out of the system after filter replacement, should I use RTV on the gasket? Anything else? Holes in my theories?

There is just one hole in your theory. There are no bands of any sort to adjust in your vans tranny. Its a fully electronic trans with no bands. Unless you are talking about clamps (bands) on the cooler lines.

Yes dump the fluid and use RTV on the pan. Clean both surfaces GOOD with a scraper and brake parts cleaner first. Then a careful bead of RTV will work fine. Let it dry b4 adding fluid. There is no internal pressure in the pan area but it can leak if not somewhat if the RTV is not somewhat cured.

Use ATF+4 fluid only. Buy the filter from a MOPAR parts dealer or a chrysler dealer of some sort. Don't use after market IMHO.

The lines can become hard and the clamps loose. There is substantial pressure in those lines so they can pop off. Do yourself a favor and replace them.
