2011 Grand Caravan Trans issues begin!!!
There are a number of issues with 2011 Dodge Caravan transmission but it seems no one willing to bring it up. I have a case opened with Chrysler Consumer Center on my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. The transmission/transfer case skipped 2nd gear on up or downshifting. Dealership can't fix and Chrysler is still searching for a solution to resolve the problem, mine caravan begins at 3312 miles and I bring the van in total of 4 times, and is going to have another appointment on next Monday 2/20/2012. will keep you posted.
Got a 2002 caravan with a 2.4 l 3 speed transmission. Took trans out had it rebuilt put it in.now van wont start. Neutral switch bad. Fixed it. Now the strange part. Van will only start if i have my odb 2 scanner plugged in under the dash. I remove it van stalls even if driving wont start until i plug it back in.no codes by the way. Im blown away don't know what to do . Is it the computer if so are they interchangeable . Please help if ya can . Thank you !!

rickker, you have a ground or power issue. Check all your ground straps to be properly connected, also check to be sure you have no wires pinched. That is your issue there...
follow the thread to see what a trip i had with my beloved caravan .well the plug going to the leak detection pump got pinched during trans install . gave code p1494. then the shaking was ( ready for this.)
the bell housing bolts were loose . yep causing the trans to lose alignment . poor install check the little stuff first even if it seems like there is no way it could be that. hope these set of events don't happen to any of you but if it does try my fixes. and im surprised that more people didn't respond to my thread. were all here to help each other and most like me are new. even i would help if i thought i could. thank you to the master tech that did help.

rickker,
You may have gotten more responses if you had started your own separate thread, instead of adding to a thread titled "2011 Grand Caravan Trans issues". Many people never saw your post because they had no interest in the titled topic.

I have issues like yours.
Now my issues are mostly fixed. The transmission is much much better, smooth and no noisy/sound most of time.
It is long long story. The short version is that they changed "power control unit" in the dealership when I changed oil. They told me "power control unit" when I told them issue fixed days later.

I have a 2011 Dodge Caravan, now 1000km. I noticed problems when 200km.
1. Suddering at low speed in reverse on incline
2. When start from cold, the shift is a bit jerky going forward.
3. Today, when I braked, I released my foot on the brake pedal a little bit, the van jerked forward. I have to brake quickly again.

Well after 8 months of ownership of my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan and all it's transmission issues, I have caved. I was going to pursue the lemon law in Massachusetts. I have been without this vehicle for a total of 21 days since my purchase in May, for the same transmission issue. The last repair was done in February, seemed to be running fine, last week I backed up my driveway, it studdered and hesitated and when I put it in gear it skipped. I am so sick and tired of dealing with this issue. The lemon law litigation will consume time I don't have. Dodge lawyers have been in touch with me and offered a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty. Guess What? I am taking it and moving on. I would suggest anyone wanting to buy a dodge grand caravan with the 6 speed transmission to think twice and save yourself time and aggrevation. It's terrible!!! I am going to trade this vehicle in for a Honda Odessey. Thanks Dodge, this was my 7th and last purchase of your caravan, you lost a loyal customer.
I took my van in for it's 18,000 k. oil change, with my usual complaints about the heavy shifting CLUNK when in Econ mode, from 1st to 3rd, as well as the complaint about after stopping for a short time (going into a store, returning in 5 min.) there being a LOUD THUD shifting from P into D.
It's has all gone away! The trans shifts smooth and quiet, just like one would think it should, in all modes. I'm a happy camper now.
The Service Write-up reads thus:
Check for intermittent clunk on trans engagement
Scan for codes, no codes related to trans operation
Performed quick learn to trans controller
Road tested and shifts better now
So if you are having a similar problem, get then to do the "Quick Learn to Trans Controller" - I have no idea what this is/does but who cares,it worked for me!
So I now drive around using the "Econ" mode all the time. I know that the most valuable way to save gas is to go lightly on the gas pedal, but the (claimed) 4-5% savings using the Econ mode helps, too!
