high RPM needed for reverse
I replaced the transmission three years ago on my 1996 caravan 3.0 3-speed. This transmission has only 30K on it and was new when i bought it. lately I noticed that the trans needs a lot of RPMs in order to move backwards. the three forward gears are fine as well as the fluid. I use syn fluid.
I am afraid I will break the trans by putting up so much RPMs, so I am hoping if someone can explain why this is happening.
Thanks,
M

What you need to do is have the line pressure checked in reverse, This will let you know if there is a seal leaking. The specs for line pressure in reverse should be as high as 220 psi.
Hey , Just a thought . 1st break the jam nut . then Have the reverse band adjusted by turning it all the way till it stops moving to the right . Then turn the anchor bolt out one complete turn an lock the anchor bolt adjuster with jam nut while holding the anchor bolt . My Thoughts Bud
Wow...typical things I cannot do. I did replace the tranny myself, but this goes a little further.... Others have said catalytic converter and torque converter. The van starts to act up weird now in other gears as well, like it does not want to shift, or shift when not needed.
