Spare tire: What's up, can' disconnect.

Spare tire: What's up, can' disconnect.
06 caravan--Hey everyone, lowered spare tire today to check it for air. Never took it down before.
Lowered it to ground. Not enough cable on it to pull it out from below van to make useable. Ok, so I got under van, felt all around inside the wheel and couldn't find any disconnect of the cable so i could use it.
Please, please tell me how to do that. Now that I told my wife about my adventure she doesn't feel safe until i prove it can be pulled out. And frankly so would i.
