my 2001 caravan se wont start
from the top........my mom's van ran good a/b 2 weeks ago started loosing power, engine light pop on,when see pull over engine stalled & wouldn't start when I got there engine started drove really bad when I got to her house engine would not start, change cam sen.,crank sen.,& even the ecm... but still get code for camshaft sen.,could it be bad timing belt (167325 mi)causing this or should I just wash & burn.......lol I mean fells like chasing rabbits with no dogs....( Which way did he go George!)
Yes, we need engine size.
Some engines don't have a timing belt, but have a timing chain.
What may cause this;
-Plugged catalytic converter
-Bad O2 sensor
-Bad ignition coil
-Bad TPS, throttle position sensor
-Jammed EGR valve, Exhaust gas recirculator
-Vacuum leak
-Bad fuel pump/pressure regulator
-Blown fuse/bad relay
Just to name a few.
Get the Chilton or Haynes repair manual, it will help you along.
You should be able to pull error codes from the PCM with the "key dance".
The book will have the code definitions in it.
An OBD scan tool is better, but if the van won't start, getting it to the auto parts store to scan it is not really an option.
The key dance- turn the key starting from the off position, "ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON" , (never to start position)
Have a piece of paper and a pen, and count the check engine light flashes.
ei: three flashes, a short pause, five flashes. Repeats three times. ErrorCode = 35
It will flash a welcome code (11 or 12 I think) to let you know it's working and ready to give up it's codes. Then it will give all stored codes and then repeat the whole sequence again.
These codes will help us help you.
It can be a little tricky, a code that states O2 sensor out of range, can actually be caused by a bad fuel injector, or the air intake temp sensor.
Fill in the gaps for us and we'll have a better idea on a good plan of action.

Tol peps...... engine(2.3) code(P0340) ran fuel pressure test, it was fine. But figured it out..... It was a bad wire in the connector on the cam shaft sen. Running like a champ again TOL....you all have been great.....!
