250 thousand plus miles, thank you for any help in advance.
When I start the van I have no gages or lights on the dash after I put it in any gear they all come on and that’s when it either tells me I am in all gears or none at the same time. And yes I now have a check engine light, and my door and key chime is not working when all of this happening. It seams to be shifting ok but I haven’t really drove it after it almost got me in a wreck this morning. I have had this van for ten years and I am the only person that drives it so it really has me puzzled. Thank You for taking the time to respond to my post I truely Appreciate it.
The cluster is basically a bus module. There are no direct inputs to it, it relies completely on bussed information for it's operation. So when it lites the entire prndl or leaves it blank, that's because it doesn't know what gear you are in. Same with the inoperative gauges and the indicator lamps. With your model year, the cluster is a common offender for bus failure. So is the Body Control Module. If it is currently acting up, remove the cluster and leave it unplugged for about 15 minutes and then reconnect it and see if it works. If it does, it is bad. The printed circuit board on the back of the cluster is known to have solder joint issues so it is possible it can be fixed. Otherwise they are quite expensive but the new boards have dealt with the solder joint issue and shouldn't give you any more problems.
Ok found the problem with the check engine light my gas cap was not on all the way. also thought we found out what was causing the dash lights to go out. My husband found a burned out fuse under the dash he replaced it and everything came back like it should be. Drove it for two days everything was good until I was at a stop light went to take off my transmission slipped again then it was showing me the all gears or no gears at one the same time again and I’ve only got first gear changed the fuse and it got me home. I have read that when your transmission goes out it will stay in first just so you can get it home but why when I change the fuse do I have all of them until it blows again? Now every time it starts to change gears the fuse blows and I have no idea where to start. I understand I must have a short somewhere but where do I even start to look any help would be greatly appreciated.
