HELP rear heat hoses and tubes?
so we recently bought a 2008 caravan. a few months later we noticed the smell of coolent coming out of our vents and from the engine compartment. so we went to pep boys to have leak check done. turns out we have a leak in the rear heat hoses and tubes. pep boys would not tell us anymore once we told them to screw themselves when they said it would cost 559.87 to fix the issue. so my wife and i have decided to fix it ourselves. we can get the parts from the dealership but we dont really know how to fix this issue. pep boys said that they need to replace all of them if one is bad, is this true? and whats the easiest way to get to these hoses/tubes. if anyone can give me some pointers. thank you
I guess I have never seen the metal tubes leak so unless you hit something and punchured them, it is usually just a hose and clamps. There are 2 foot long pieces of hose on the front of the tubes and a couple of foot long pieces in the front of the right rear wheel well with disconnects on them. Figure out which is leaking and just replace that one. If you did punchure the metal tube, then it is replace as a set with both of the coolant tubes and both of the a/c tubes.
If it is the tubes at the top end they have a plastic crimp to hold the rubber hose on I have seen them leak there .they come with both lines but it is like a 4 ft section .they may have priced you the under body section. I think the top section is around $200 .the under body section also comes as an assembly but is a bit of a pain to change,If you are changing the top section if you take the wiper cowl off it will give you better access to the lines
