Sorry I meant size and location. I see 3 tweeter grills built into the dash but based on the sound field I'm betting those locations are for the higher end sound systems that come in the Crew or R/T. So I probably just have the 2 front door speakers and 2 rear speakers. But on Crutchfield when I look into the Caravan it asks if my unit has a subwoofer or 6 speakers or 4 speakers. I don't know if the door or rear pair have a coaxel setup getting me to 6 speakers.

How easy are these panels to remove? So far I just haven't found a lot of user info on the 2011s. hopefully someone here can help. I want to upgrade the head unit to a double DIN GPS/receiver/BT/Backup camera unit. I'll probably also upgrade the speakers to get a better sound in there. I'd love to use those dash tweeter locations to give a more full sound.

Just curious if anyone has dug in yet and what they thought of upgrading speakers or head unit.

Thanks,
Mike

The base system has 4 speakers, 2 in the front doors and 2 in the rear quarter trim. All 4 speakers are 6 x 9".

the next system up has those 4 speakers and adds 2 2.5" speakers in the dash

The top line system has the 4 base system speaker locations, it has 3 speakers in the dash, one on each side and one in the center and are 3.5" in size. There are 2 2.5" speakers located in the D-Pillars and an 8" subwoofer in the left rear quarter panel.

the instrument panel speaker locations are pretty easy to get to. You remove the A-pillar trim and the front cover pops up. The speakers mount underneith.

The front door panels have to be removed to access the front door speakers

the quarter trim panel speakers are accessed by removing the bolster covering them, they just snap off.

Tizzy are you a 2011/12 owner? Done any upgrades to your audio? Just curious to hear real world feedback on what might sound good in this van. Actually I guess when it comes to aftermarket speakers in a Minivan any Caravan/T&C owner could weigh in on this.

I was thinking about the Infinity Kappa 693.9I, their seem to be some good prices for them around. But I've never worked audio in such a large space and frankly I haven't done much audio work in the past 15 years period. Soldering is like riding a bike, but keeping up with the best quality components is like a whole new ballgame.

Anyone have pictures of the factory subwoofer? I'm just curious where that might be placed. I really dont want to do anything that reduces the functionality of my van. I want to be able to fold down all seats if neccessary. But if there are other cleaver spots to place things like subwoofer, midbass drivers, possibly an amp and such I'd be interested to explore that. Just curious what others have done.

How long has Dodge used the (4) 6x9 speaker format? Just curious if the setup on an 04 or 07 or whatever might also work for my 11.

Thanks,
Mike

Not an owner, I'm a dealer tech. The minivan has used 6x9 speakers for quite some time, probably back into at least the mid 90's.

subwoofer location =

Thanks for the feedback, great picture, very helpful. Anyone ever priced out just the enclosure? What size sub are they using?

Tizzy since your a dealer tech, any suggestion on where to find a reasonably priced shop manual? I'm not talking your chiltons or anything, but a real shop manual. Thanks again for your help.

The sub is 8", I think it comes with the enclosure, don't think they sell them seperate. I think you can still buy a factory service manual but I'm not assuming it cheap since they don't print them for everyone anymore. I know Chrysler sells aftermarket shops subscriptions to the online database so I'm not positive about paper manuals anymore. Haven't actually seen one since '04. I'll have to check on that.
