Default What tranny do I have?

How do you find out what trans axle is in a 96 Dodge Caravan SE 3.3 4spd auto?
Is it pre 6/6/95 or later? Can the vin number tell me?

The problem is:
Tranny locks up when slowing down and will not shift up.
Have to stop, turn off key, then start up again.

Also has a front seal leak so I'm looking to replace it and need to know what it is.

1996 was a mid year change on the 41TE/A604 transmission. Do you know if you have a TRS( transmission range sensor) or a safety neutral switch? The transmission is going into limp in.

I do not know what it has. Sorry.
I can get one from Pick n Pull for $130.
I just don't know which one I need.

Also, what has to be done after its installed.
Is there something that has to be done to the computer?

I'm trying to keep this car running but it not worth putting that much money into it.

Count how many connectors you have on the transmission. one input, one output, one solenoid pack connector and one TRS connector. That adds up to four connectors. Now if you have the other style, you would have five connectors. Because of the safety neutral switch and backup switch. Once you tell me how many connector you have, I can tell you the part numbers or you can pm me the last 9 of the vin and can go from there.

Okay, Here we go!

You need to look at the production date on the door. Because the numbers i going to give you are mopar numbers. If the date is before 06/05/95 the transmission number is R4883569AF, If the date is after 06/05/95 then the number is R4883031AF. From the vin number you gave me, you have the transmission without the TRS.
