Default 2007 3.8L V6 oil filter vs other years

As I was getting an oil filter for the 07 Town & Country we bought recently, I found that the listed filter is different for 07 than the one listed for the few years before, and few years after, which used the same filter. The 07 filter was smaller (just comparing Mopar branded filters) than the 06- and 08+ filter. The thread and gasket sizes were the same. Googling, I found K&N's available filters have a similar size difference, and the relief valves are set 1 or 2 psi different. Does anyone know the reason for the different filters, and if an 07 can use the slightly larger filter from the other years? You'd think the larger filter has more filtering media in it, would would create less pressure drop across the filter.

I always use a mopar filter on my cars and truck. The mopar filters will fit most import cars. The 2006 and 2007 can use both the large oil filter or the smaller one.

This engine was also used in some Jeep models starting in 2007 and the small filter is needed in the Jeep application.

I would run the bigger filter if it fit

I run the K&N filters on everything, love the 1" nut on it to remove it
