Default Which alternator for 05 Grand Caravan?

Can anyone tell me which alternator my Grand Caravan uses? It is a 2005 with the 3.8L. Has power driver's seat, power rear doors, power windows, etc. The VIN # is 2D4GP44LX5R239688 if that helps. I broke down in the middle of the night on a Sat and the only place to work on it on Sunday was PEP Boys. They said there were 3 different ones depending on where it was made. They could not find any markings on the old alternator. They finally said they figured it out and put one on and it has lasted less than 2 weeks. Alternator sounds like it has a bad bearing in it. They said it was because the battery was low. The battery checks out as good with no bad cells.Have had the van for 3 months and it has been great so far until I let PB work on it.

Steak59, I hope they'll warranty it. The store mngr new I was stuck away from home and tried to sell me a new battery when they installed the alternator. Said "these new alternators will burn up in 15 minutes if the battery is weak". Guess he thought I just fell off the turnip truck. After he left I asked the service mngr if they had charged the battery before testing since the alternator went out. He looked a little embarrassed and went back and charged the battery and it was fine. However, they noted on the receipt that "cust is aware that bad battery may cause future alternator problems". I didn't see it at the time. Looking at reviews for several Pep Boy stores, there seems to be a trend of not wanting to warrant their alternators. I'm expecting a hassell to get it warranted. I'll post how it turns out - good or bad.

Well, took it back to Pep Boys yesterday to get the 2 week old alternator replaced under warranty. Based on several reviews I had seen, I was expecting a hassell to get it replaced. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find very courteous employees who got it in, removed the alternator, tested it, confirmed it was bad and replaced it at no charge. Although I was not impressed with the store in Chattanooga that sold me the defective alternator, I can recommend the Pep Boys store on Charlotte Pike in Nashville, TN and Kevin, the service manager. They were professional and courteous and got me in and out as quickly as they could. Good job guys.
When we have a bad experience we tell all of our friends. Only fair to do the same when it's a good one.
