Default 05 G.Caravan Fan issue

Ok guys I have stumbled across this. What seems to be the radiator fan the one on the left. It comes on all the time even when i turn the key for ACC back it also comes on.

Any ideas of what may be the problem?

Odd. Sounds like you have one dead fan and a cooling fan relay stuck on. The fans get power from the relay via a single power wire. When the relay commands the fans on both fans should always turn on. Each fan doesn't have individual controls.

Jumper power from the battery direct to the dead fan. If it turns on you have a wiring problem between the relay and fan. Is the one fan staying on with the keys in your pocket? Is the dead fan binding when you spin it by hand?

No the fan turns off when the keys are out of the ignition. It only comes on when the key is turned.

Again, odd. Typically when the relay fails closed the fans will spin even with the key off as power is normally applied to the relay output contacts at all times. If your fans are turning on with the key turned to run with a cold engine and A/C off, either the A/C pressure transducer or engine coolant temp sensor (ECT) has failed and is telling the PCM to turn on the fans or the PCM itself is faulty. Have to include some wiring issue in that mix. The dead fan? It's either missing power or ground to the fan or the fan itself is toast. Stick a meter on the fans connector and see if you have power and ground. Both there? Change the fan motor or the whole fan assembly. Not there. Test wiring from there to the relay.

Just be sure it is only one fan that turns on. Its the one on the left. The other fan turns on when the AC is turned on.

You just went from "odd" to "the Twilight Zone". I've triple checked the wiring diagram. Fan power comes from a single wire to a splice that splits that power to both fans. No independent fan control. There's nothing on the diagram that shows how one fan can be powered when the other isn't under normal operation unless the diagram is not correct. I would suspect some kind of short to power in the fan wire harness. At least the fact the other fan turns on when A/C is turned on indicates the fan relay may be ok. That also indicates the phantom fan is powered with the relay contacts open when it shouldn't be. Could try disconnecting the fan relay and see if the fan still turns on.

Ok cougar i think we found the culprit.

The fan that turns on is wired directly to the ignition fuse on the fuse box. Now i disconnected it and the fan turns off. So is the ECT sensor bad or why is it rigid like that?

Ok. The fog is lifting. Good find. Sounds like someone was having problems getting the fans to turn on or some overheating issue and rigged up his own fan circuit. That would sure explain why the left side fan was turning on as it was. Did you buy this van used? Power for both fans should come off pin #2 (dk blue/dk green wire) of the cooling fan relay. That wire splits at a splice and goes to pin #1 at each fan connector. Apparently the right side fan is still getting powered by the relay since it turns on when the A/C is turned on.

Is the right side fan turning on when the engine heats up? If yes then it's working fine leaving a rewire of the left side fan. If no then you may have a bad ETC sensor or wiring issue there. Is the temp indication on the dash working ok?

rigid = rigged?
