I'm looking for a schematic or diagram of an 01 r&p. I really just need to know which of the two inlets is for the return hose.

 

According to the drawing in my manual that is for a 2005 model year the top port is for the return hose and the bottom hose is the pressure hose. The return hose is the hose connected to the cooler. I thought the hoses had different fittings attached so that they couldn't be switched. Did the rack look identical to your old one? were the ports in the same position and the same size? I am wondering if you have a rack for a different year.

Good, that's the way I hooked it up. I didn't study the placement of the r&p's fixed hoses, but the area that connects to the steering column & the fittings were the same. No trouble attaching the unit, but my alignment is now 1/4 turn off.

 

Is that a quarter turn of the steering wheel? That is probably why the steering is so heavy

It's actually an 1/8 turn to the left.
