Default 2003 Caravan with 3.3 motor Won't crank or start.

2003 Dodge Caravan 3.3 motor

Problem: Won't Start.

Symproms: Came without warning, Key in key on position everything works, Just installed new battery a few months ago, it is fine. I moved the shifter to neutral, bumped the van back and forth in and out of gear, smacked the starter, it is not the starter, I spliced into the white wire to the starter and arced it on the blue power wire post and the starter cranks but engine won't fire. The fuel pump primed. I played musical relays, They are all good, they click when you cycle the cpu to the key on position.

I'm, thinking igition switch, possibly transmission position sensor or cpu.

Any input would be appreciated.

check for codes?
If you dont have hand held scanner, do the Key dance, Key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON within 5 second, now read your odometer and write it down.

PP 1684

I can start the van about once every 12 hours, after that I get a clicking in the relay box. it's the accessory relay. I switch them around and it doesn't change anything. I started the van up after sitting 2 weeks and drove around, came home shut it off and hen started it again, off bad started again, off and on again, drove around some more. Turned on the AC and lights, came home, shut it off, and started it again, shut it off again.....doesn't start, accessory relay clicks on and off with the key between start and run. I checked for error codes, nothing.... Hmmmm.......what gives?

Security system? Park/Neutral switch? Does it crank with the key or nothing?

No, no and it does crank about every 12 hours but then it just clicks at he accessory relay when you shut it off, it won't start again.

Sounds like maybe ignition cylinder/starter switch? You said that you could jump the starter to make it crank when you tried that was the key in the on position?

If you've got near 12vdc at both starter connections when you turn the key to start and it won't turn the engine over, change the starter. If the starter relay is clicking when you turn the key to start, voltage is getting from the ignition switch through the TRS and on to the relay. It also means the PCM is supplying the ground to the starter relay coil.

Sounds like it might be the anti theft acting up.
The module that reads the transponder in you key is located around the ignition.
Easy part to change but you need the dealer to program it to your keys.
