98 caravan tranny questions
hello all,
my transmission revs a little high as i go from 1st to 2nd then it shifts a bit hard. ive been reading on this site and a few others but im getting conflicting info so i decide to post my own thread for this issue.
fluid is good and so is filter.
i see on the allpar site that the 98 could have 3 different trans. i was told at first i had the 41te but i now think i may have the 31th. i cannot find anything in or on the van that says what it is. from what ive read the 41te has input on right side of dipstick and output beside the shift linkage also that it has a solenoid assembly sound cover on the front side with the nss more towards the right (drivers side).
mine has nss in front facing front fender and the only other sensor i can see is behind the dipstick which i believe is the lock-up solenoid connector.
does the 31th have an input/out sensor like the 4 speed?
does anyone have a diagram of the 31th and the 41te they could send to me or share in this thread?
any other sensors that might cause this?
i really just want to fix the minor shift problem before it gets worse.
im sorry for the dumb questions. i work on motors all the time but very little on trans.
thanks

well since posting i have figured out that i do have the 31th and that there is only one speed sensor. from what i can tell is its on the left (passenger side) of the tranny.i havent been able to physically see it but i could feel it there. it feels like its a square connecter that sits all the way down over sensor.
