Default Desperate for help!

2002 Caravan, just purchased because my step-son is permanently paralized, and we needed something to transport him and wheel-chair. Of course, NO Money! Body is rough, (80 grit or worse) and lots of little stuff I can fix. problem is spedometer and odometer do not work, and backup lights don't work, and gear indicator has all (PRND31) illuminated. Did the self test, does the calibrate stuff okay, but doesn't move when driven. I bought the factory manual (download), and that just convinced me how little I know.

Engine service light on, OBDC reader said 1698, surprise...no spedometer when driven. Van has 3 speed automatic, 3.3 L engine, base model (WAS A HANDICAP CAB), but runs pkay, a/c works, etc. Question Number one... If the VSS sensor itself was not working, would it run okay, or would it irk the tranny? The VSS looks like you'd have to pill battery, battery support just to get down to it. Boss lady is really leaning on me, so any help that I can get will be VERY appreciated!

Just a quick word of success.........all problems,odometer/speedometer, back-up lights, PRNDL display, caused by fuse #15 in IPM not supplying 12 volts to eatx control relay. Stumbled on problem by going back to KISS........what's more likely to fail, a fuse or a control module.........so!!!!!

Nice! Good job checking the cheaper, most likely culprits first. I wouldn't of even thought about checking a fuse that wasn't even burned out.
