I have a 2007 dodge caravan, 3.3L gas (VIN "R") engine.

I am having a problem removing the lock ring holding the fuel pump in.

I can rotate it CCW about 1/8 inch, but it looks like the tabs need to be pushed down at the same time it is hit.

I have approximated things on the attached drawing.


How do I get this ring off?

 

I hit it with a dead blow hammer and a brass punch. A couple of nice hits and she comes off.

If you take a look at the picture, I have tried hitting it
at the tabs where the red x's are (but on all 5 tabs)

Should I be hitting it where the green marks are?

(I don't want to break it, as I can't find another locking ring around my area,
no Amazon, No RockAuto.

 

I got it off!.

It took some very hard hits.

5 lb hammer.
