Default Ice and power sliding doors

I have a 2009 Grand Caravan. We just had our first snow since I purchased this vehicle. I used it the day it snowed and drove around and the doors worked just fine. I park my van in the garage(not heated). The van was snow free at the time. The next day when I tried to open the sliding doors they were stuck. I drove the van around to try and warm it up but the doors were still stuck. There was no visible ice on the outside of the doors. I saw somewhere that water and ice can get in the latch. How can this be avoided? We have 4-5 months of snow. I need to be able to use the side doors.
