Default installing an trans oil cooler - Need advice on oil lines

My 09 Caravan has those "push together to connect" fittings on the transmission oil lines running to the cooler in the rad. I want to install an oil cooler in the line.
Firstly, which line do I put the cooler on, the the "to" or "from" line to the rad. Which is which?
I assume I need a special tool to disconnect those strange fittings?
How do I connect the oil lines from the cooler to those fittings?
Are those fittings on the line because it is a higher pressure than the vans used to be? My aftermarket cooler has the simple old style hose clamp connections.
