1996 transmission control module replacement
Hi all,
I have a friend with a 1996 overdrive transmission and they have had it diagnosed with a bad module, short wheel based sport model. Sometimes goes into limp mode and if stopped and restarted can be nursed back and other times will run fine. The mechanic at my shop had one that he was getting ready to trash and sold me the module, he claims all overdrive 96's will work and he worked at a dealer for years. Here is my question, will it need to be "learned" or will simply replacing and disconnecting the battery do the trick?
Thanks for any thoughts
Edit; 210,000 miles and not sure of the last rebuild or replacement? Also there was another thread about grounds possibly being an issue when I searched. Is there a need to add a ground when replacing?

Battery trick won't work. Many insist a "quick learn" is required. Many just treat the TCM as plug and play and press on without it. Flip a coin. The ground? Not sure where it is but check it. Reseating it (loosen/re-tighten) no matter how clean it looks is a good idea.

Well I didn't have a lot of time and replaced the module. It went into limp mode and wouldn't come out so I installed the old one and it has gone back to intermittent. My best guess is that it is an electronic issue not a mechanical one with the transmission. When I have more time I will get the computer scanned to see if it leads me somewhere?
