anyone install additional power supply in back of van?
good morning yall!
getting ready for a road trip and need some additional power supplies for the rear of the van. i have a 1996 GC, ES, 3.8L. the rear outlet works, but falls out of the hole when i put anything in it, and whatever is plugged in there gets knocked around by gear, so i want to up grade/mod the power situation and make all the outlets/power supplies "hot", always on, not switched and relocate them to an area that is not "beat on". whats the best way to do that? got pix of your mods? what parts did you use?
here is what i am thinking of using in the back for the kids....one on each side, installed in the bottom of the pocket underneath the armrest flipup.....

thinking ill just pop in a dual usb port on each side......

drivers left is the dual usb sockets. awesome.

well....after a good +12hrs of scrubbing every cm of the inside of the HippieVan i think we are ready to roll out skiKation.
this thing was NASTY!!! the previous owner was a smoker and a coffee SPILLER, not a drinker!! i spent most of that 12 hours wet n dry vacuuming the carpets! oh-my-god.....what absolute pigs the previous owners were!! its like they spilled and one or more of those BIG coffee urns that you see at church and the spilt if all OVER the inside of the van!! walls, carpet, everything......and im still not done!!! ACK!!! the carpets are black they have some much crap in them. really sad.
i also wiped down every crack and crevice with warm soapy water, a finger brush and followed up with warm clean water as a rinse off. if that didnt get it, i spot treated with goof off. love me some goof off! i perfected my technique with the squirt bottle and the wet/dry vac to get the most crap up in a pass. very tedious, time consuming work, but worth it!
almost every panel on that van was not fastened properly. like the van had been thru secondary or stripped at the border. just about every panel had broken clips and buttons, so i went through and fixed as many as i could. it is much better as a result of the effort.
i must say the van looks GREAT compared to a few days ago, before i started. a few more hours wet/dry vacuuming the driver and passenger floors and im done. also took the carpeted floor mats to the manual car-wash and power washed them clean. incredible the amount of filth some people create and live in.....well, including me, it took me almost two years to get to this job! ha! i should have known better than to buy from a smoker when i got her, never again will i purchase a car from a smoker, no matter the price, aint worth it.
anyway, the frustration and brain-dumping aside.....HippieVan is clean, happy and ready for skiKation!!! YAY!!!

finished off the final prep for skiKation trip coming up. but in a new H3 bulb in the burned out fog light (drivers right), finished tweeking out on the wet vac w/spray bottle in the front driver/passenger foot-wells and under consul.....more BLACK water in the vacuum tank, nasty. installed the custom cut 2nd layer carpet for the back "lounge" area, reinstalled the rear bench seat, layed out the freshly washed mexi/dog blanket, reattached the rear view mirror (w/auto dim), new air filter (the HippieVan has NOTICEABLE pickup, git up and GO!!, after change), bought two new main headlight bulbs for the trip in-case one burns out, blue locktite (for the rear hatch "standoffs"), popped in a cap for the class3 hitch, and dropped the rig off at my mechanics to have him rework the leaky gastank/pump from when he installed a new a coupla months ago....cant completely fill the tank, otherwise if leaks out the the top where the pump is inserted. he needs to properly seal that. i would like to buff out the fog light lens, but i just dont think ill have the time.....i still have to aim the new headlamp/lens with full load as well.
other than that, we are all set!!! the HippieVan will roll!
Grass, Gas or ***....no one rides for free!!
