Default 2000 3.8L Timing Cover Leak

My 2000 GC with the 3.8L has coolant leaking form the bottom of the timing cover. The dealership tells me that this model of the 3.8L has a flawed timing cover that will need to be replaced. The timing cover alone is $840.00 and labor will be on top of that. I cannot find an aftermarket timiming cover for the 2000 3.8L. Has anyone else heard of this problem or is this a bunch of BS?

I have a hard time accepting that the timing cover is systematically "flawed" on a 13-year-old car without there being a recall or TSB. The seal/gasket, maybe, but not the cover itself.

There are definitely issues with the timing cover. There wouldn't be a TSB just because of an updated part. And recalls are for safety issues. But as far as I know, the cover issues were oil pump issues, not coolant leaking. There is a hose that runs behind the cover from the nipple just behind the water pump and goes up toward the t-stat housing. That has leaked and caused more than one person to blame the cover. Did find a cheaper cover for ya, http://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/s...sembly=1005053
