Is there anywhere i can get this new "Y" piece for the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. The only place I've been able to find it is the Dodge dealership but they want to charge $155 and can only sell it with all the hoses and medal that goes behind the engine as well. I don't need all of this and was trying to do this fix without having to spend a lot of cash. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

 

I do not know what the Y goes to but most auto parts stores have brass Y's that you can probably replace it with. Take the Y with you so they can match the size.

 

it runs from the back side of the thermostat to the rear heating unit?? Advance auto said they didn't have anything like it...would brass work instead of plastic??

I just did this repair with the T fitting just like the video. It works fine. I put new heater hose on as well total cost about $10.00. I mounted the three hoses on the t fitting first,I made each section of hose a few inces longer than the original then cut them to fit while installing them.

Plastic does not work fine. Almost all the plastic hose adapters are rated for something around 200 degrees F max and that assumes they are premium quality, not 3rd world junk. Very few are rated for 250 degrees. Coolant under pressure can approach that temp and the exhaust only adds heat. The original plastic Y fails for this reason.

If you're looking for better reliability than stock, the adapter needs to be 5/8" barbed or beaded end steel, stainless or brass. There are plenty of them on amazon, ebay and elsewhere in the T configuration. The metal adapters in a WYE configuration are real tough to find. The only mfr I found was in Australia and their products don't seem to be sold on the internet.
