Glad to hear you found the problem, and thanks for posting the solution and troubleshooting tips. This seems to be a common problem and this is such a simple fix and easy to try. I would also like to thank the ebay seller (326esperanzaway) for helping you troubleshoot the problem.

Engine grounding method is significantly different on 4spd transmissions compared to the 6spd. This thread is specific to the 6spd where the ground is terminated on the transmission case instead of on the starter bolt.
however I suspect the starter relay output from the PCM will cause havoc on either motor if the engine ground connection has significant resistance.

Yes, my 2009 has the 6 speed.
