Default No start, no crank, 2005 Dodge caravan

So all we get from it is a clicking in the Accessory fuse relay when we turn it over. Initially the van died after a few minor things happened. The horn would just go off randomly....had to pull the fuse to keep from scaring old ladies on the highway...then, sometimes the tail lights would not turn off when the van was turned off. We didn't have any problems with it starting until about a week ago, and now it just does not start. It's a 3.3 L V6.

we checked all the fuses to make sure they were good, it wasn't them. We then disconnected the fuse panel to check the harness connections for corrosion, because we read on here that it happens quite often. Some of the connecting pins were so corroded that they snapped off. We replaced the fuse panel and cleaned all the pins on the harness and used some Electrolytic grease on them to keep it from happening again.

We know it's not the battery, it was tested with a multimeter. I also tried to jump it with my car and some cables. We replaced the positive batter terminal connection because that was corroded as well.
Besides that, all the lights come on, everything works, it just will not turn over. The only other thing besides the no crank, is that the power door locks do not work anymore. We tried tapping the starter as well....no dice.

I know many people are having similar issues, has anyone had any luck getting it fixed? What did it take? Any help at all would be appreciated...thanks!

quick follow up...I did the self diagnosis test in the sticky on this forum, and two codes i got were

100.0 Loop-Back Failure
100.6 SBEC/DEC/MCM communication fault

The fuel gauge, speedometer, and temp guage all showed what was normal.

I also removed the starter relay and crossed terminal 30 with 87 and the van did turn over/crank, but no start.

Doe anyone have anything to suggest to help me pinpoint the problem?

Just finished testing it with a code reader, to see if i could get more insight into what the above codes might mean and no codes are showing...this is so frustrating..

Thanks Totoydj...i jumped the starter relay switch, and it did crank then... is that the same thing? I was told that you can touch the two solenoid leads together, but i can only seem to find a pos + lead on the starter....do you know how to test it on a 3.3 V6?

Well i went under the dash today after work, to check for some loose wires or connections, and found that one of the plugs for the control module were loose....if that is what it's called...I still haven't worked out what the difference between a PCM/BCM/ECM is yet....the one i'm refering to is the one on the inside firewall, just behind the emergency brake release.

I could not believe what i saw under there...whoever owned this van before us did some hack job on the wiring under there...there are cut/splices everywhere. I unwrapped all the old electrical tape mess and re-wrapped it to clean it up a little..but its still a mess. The only hope i have is that because the van ran fine for about 8 months like that, that the problem lies somewhere else.

I did another diagnostic afterwards, and i'm only getting one code now. The 100.0 code is gone, but the 100.6 still remains....baby steps i guess. Still no crank no start. Still clicking only out of the accessory relay, and none others. If you put your fingers on it, you can feel it. It's the only relay making that noise. I switched it out with others that I know work, and same thing.

I"ll be sure to post my progress on this, and add some pics later on if i can, just to let others know what things i did that worked, and didn't work. I'll try to do it in point or list form, so it's easier to understand. I"ve seen lots of similar problems on here....I hope my misery will help someone else....

I'm having a mechanic friend of mine wreck it to his place to have a look at the starter some time this week....after which i'll prob have to tow it to a local guy who specializes in auto electric.
fingers crossed.

FOLLOW UP:

So it turns out the last owner of the Van tried to install a remote starter....by himself. In the mess of wires he left some hanging a little too low. He also had it done completely wrong. Some of the low hanging wires got stripped and must have shorted out.

Either way, we took it to a qualified professional who specifically works on auto electrical problems. He found and fixed the problem (No communication to the computer...BCM, PCM) and tore out the old remote starter and harness. THe mess of junk that wasn't needed under there is now gone...and the van works great.

So, all in all, we replaced the old fuse panel, then had a qualified professional take a look at the wiring and fix what was needed. Problem solved.

Cheers

same symptoms on mine and I think there was a remote starter on there. I just didn't get the remote to start it ever. I'll have to check the wires there under the dash tomorrow. I hope it is the same here ! Thanks good to read !
