Wondering if a2001 grand caravan tailgate will fit on a 2005 grand caravan?

 

At first glance doing a Google Images search it looks like it will, but even if color matching and consistent badge appearance are no concern you need to consider if any of the following changed between the 2001 and 2005 MYs:

• Location of the hinges, latch, and liftgate strut attach points (unlikely)
• Electrical connections (possible)
• Shape of the tail lights (doesn't look like it from online search)
• Attach point for an automatic opener if equipped (possible if the 2001 didn't have the option but the 2005 did).
• Presence or lack of rear defroster
• Presence or lack of any remote unlock or release switch (i.e., from the driver's seat) - I'm not familiar with how those worked on the 4th gens, only on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th gens.

 

Thank you! My 2005 tailgate has minor damage and I shattered the glass yesturday mowing. New glass gonna cost $300.00 so I'm just thinkin replace whole tailgate.

 

In theory, if badge/styling consistency doesn't matter to you, you should be able to use a liftgate from any 4th gen (2001-2007) GC as long as you factor in the stuff I said above. I can't tell if the liftgate on the SWB Caravan is the same.
