Default Clearance to remove alternator

What's the best way to remove the alternator from a 2002 Caravan? I can't get it out.
- Service manual says remove dipstick tube, but mine is corroded/gunked in place.
- I tried moving the radiator fan, but it did not yield enough clearance.
- Next I'll remove the EGR, but I've read advice against it. Why?

Thanks for any better ideas.

Andy

Try removing the upper motor mount and jack the engine up. And bend the dip stick tube just a little.

Success.

Thanks master tech, but I found an alternative that was simpler for me: I loosened and pushed aside the metal crossmember bracket which is above the radiator. (photo attached)

To do this, I first removed the plastic shield above the radiator: Removed 2 bolts and a few sheet metal screws. (not shown in photo)

Then I removed the metal crossmember. Removed 2 bolts at each end (A & D in photo) and loosened the two radiator isolator brackets (B & C in photo). Gently lifted the metal crossmember up, then moved it toward the front of the van, careful not to damage the hood release cable.

This made plenty of room to get the alternator up and out (E in photo).

Hope it's helpful,
Andy
