So swapping out the water pump went pretty much without a hitch. No seized bolts, and lowering the engine definitely helped in expediting the whole process.

Did end up having some issues with putting the water pump inlet tube back on, as it seems the o-ring on the end had expanded a bit, to the point where it would not fit back properly. Ended up just getting a hole new inlet tube along with the o-ring. Probably for the best as much of the paint had peeled off, and sooner or later the rust would have lead to replacement anyhow.

Thanks for the pointers 2therock!

Glad to hear it. A July 4th on the ground deal eh? What condition was the old pump in?

The bearing was definitely toast, as there was tons of rattling noise when I shook the removed pump. Lots of noise when turning the shaft as well, and definitely some wobbling going on.

Lucky it held up until I could diagnose the issue.

Other than that it was in pretty good shape. The plastic impeller was pristine. It lasted for over 10 years, so I can't really complain.

Edit: I'll post a pic of the pump tomorrow, but nothing really noticeably wrong with it on the exterior.
